Prominent Palestinian Israeli singer-songwriter, actress and peace activist Mira Awad will discuss her musical contributions in Israel and beyond. UCLA professor of ethnomusicology Ali Jihad Racy will interview Mira and she will also perform some of her music.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Singer-songwriter, actress and peace activist Mira Awad was born in the village of Rama in the Galilee to a Palestinian father and a Bulgarian mother. She studied at the Rimon School for Jazz and Contemporary Music and throughout her career, she has developed a unique fusion of sounds, combining the East with the West, weaving the Arabic language with Western harmonies, and bringing together her passions for folk, rock, jazz, Latin music, traditional Middle Eastern and Balkan music into a rich tapestry of sounds, songs and observations.
Beyond her musical work, Mira currently stars on the highly rated TV series Arab Labor that deals with the complex reality of Palestinians living inside Israel. She has also acted in a number of Israeli films. Mira identifies with the agenda of dialogue and co-existence among people and with the environment and advocates for human solidarity across the globe.
Mira Awad will give a full performance at the Pico Union Project on Saturday, November 5 at 8 PM.
